Vidya was the third of Laura’s March-baby friends I drew (the first two being Joel and Thushara). Apparently, she plays for the NTU soccer team and is a “crazy Manchester United fan”. I don’t know anything about soccer, but I gotta tell you, it seems that the Singaporean population is split cleanly into a) Man-U fans, and b) people who roll their eyes at Man-U fans. (Spouses of (a) usually fall into (b).)

From the photos, Vidya struck me as a very “chill”, cool-as-a-cucumber kind of person (just like Joel!). Key facial features, I felt, were: strong eyebrows; long, heavy-lidded eyes; distinctive button nose; and “gummy” smile. And of course, the “everywhere hair”, which is very fun to draw :)

After drawing two football fans, I have also learned two things: 1) soccer shoes do not actually have so many spikes, and are not, in fact, spiky, and 2) soccer balls are VERY HARD to draw. Wrapping pentagons and hexagons around spherical objects – my brain is not powerful enough to process!!
