caricatures for everyone!

Karen was a chirpy transport planner whom I met through work several years ago. I say “was”, because her colleagues engaged me to draw her as a goodbye gift! They gave me the instructions in comforting, no-room-for-ambiguity civil-servant style:
We’re aiming for a caricature of Karen (our outgoing lunch-buddy) doing a flying pose (Karen-pose.jpg) using 2 [...]

big money big money!!!

This is from the set of drawings I did for the medical products company that wanted to reward its good-performers with caricatures. The last one I posted was Paritosh the Cowboy. This one doesn’t have a theme though, it’s just… Jeff, the Guy from Finance.

yeeeee haaaa

A medical products company wanted to reward its high-performing staff with individual caricatures. The caricatures had different themes, such as “struggling warrior”, “we are the champions”, etc. The theme for Paritosh was “come from behind cowboy” (!!!)

Unintended references to Brokeback Mountain aside, I really liked how Paritosh’s one turned out! In particular I like his [...]

i do!

I really like this one!
Firstly, some people’s faces are just easier (and more fun) to caricature than others.

Secondly, I really enjoy drawing muscles. My client specifically wanted me to draw his friend’s head on ahhhh-nuld’s bah-day and very helpfully provided this pic:

shake it!

“My colleague Aga will be sending you the reference pictures tonight/tomorrow.  The couple you will be drawing are Sneha and Shiv.”

Thus started this most Mission Impossible-like caricature brief.

I managed to read the following before the email self-destructed deleted:
“Overall, we wanted to picture both of them wearing Indian clothes with the topic of the drawing being [...]

happy 21st lili!

Yan Han wanted to give his girlfriend Lili a caricature for her 21st birthday. (Altogether now – awwwwwwww…) Apparently, he’d seen my drawing of Ming Yi the Material Monk and thought it was cute.

I think the couple look REALLY alike! Hairstyle, eyes, lips… and her nose is like a smaller version of his (at least [...]

manny osada hands you your house keys

Manny is from Hawaii and got to know about drawmedrawme.com through our Facebook group! He wanted me to draw a colour caricature of him to put on his business card. I was really excited as this was my first overseas client, and also my first colour job.
(I also felt it was quite coincidental as my [...]

the happy ROM couple

Kaye’s friend, Mari, was going to have her ROM on the 6th of August and she wanted to get an ROM gift for the happy couple. Mari’s fiance (well, husband, now) is Finn, which as you can see gave the caricature a great headline :)
These were the two main pictures I worked from:

I had a [...]

matt hardy... put on some weight

The long-suffering life partner is a huge wrestling (and WWE) fan.  I know, I don’t get it either, but I think its appeal must be like Japanese dorama or Days of Our Lives… for boys. I think.
Anyway, he’s always asking me to draw wrestlers, so I thought why not start with one half of the [...]

avalyn

Well so, after the first RRFM in July, which was foreign-worker themed, I would say the second RRFM which I went for in August was spectacles and moles themed. Because out of the six people I drew, five had specs and three had moles. The girl above, Avalyn, is the only one without specs (though [...]

Katy Perry says: WTF?!

Lately I’ve been pretty obsessed with the singer Katy Perry. This, despite her fan base comprising almost entirely 12 and 13 year old tween girls. While she got famous (and A WHOLE LOT OF FLAK) for singing “I Kissed A Girl”, I think her other songs are much nicer, and urge you to go check [...]

pat the jetsetter

Murli’s roommate, Pat, was having her birthday and Murlelle thought it’d be nice to get her a caricature with her dog, Buddy.
As you can see from the photo, Pat is not merely a jetsetter but a real adventurer, and has already visited a third of all the places any self-respecting globetrotter needs to see before [...]

sourabh does it again!

My good friend Shuting’s colleague, Sourabh, had his birthday recently, and the office wanted to get him a pressie. She suggested I could draw him with his wife and incorporate an Indiana Jones theme, since he’s a huge fan! Immediately I knew this was going to be a REALLY FUN assignment.

Is it just me or [...]

HUGE CROWD at the RRFM!

Two weeks ago, the Post Museum had its 4th Really Really Free Market. Jennifer, the curator, had always encouraged me to go during our SinQSA meetups. After my first try at caricaturing live the previous week, I figured it would be a great chance to practise and get my drawing times down.

Things started off quite [...]

happy100throdge&serene

Brian, Sam’s good friend and regular tennis mate, wrote me mid last month to caricature his old friend from school, Rodge. He and his friends had successfully matched him to Serene recently, and apparently the two had hit it off right from the get-go. Brian felt it’d be nice to have a funny drawing to [...]

me trying to draw chou hui...

Earlier this week I got an email from a colleague whose friend, Michelle, was looking for people to volunteer their services to raise funds for autism concern in tandem with a European cycling trip (hur hur, get it? tandem? cycling?… never mind).
While I was really excited for the opportunity, I was also terribly nerve-wracked since [...]

aaaaaaand she scooooooooooooooores!

Vidya was the third of Laura’s March-baby friends I drew (the first two being Joel and Thushara). Apparently, she plays for the NTU soccer team and is a “crazy Manchester United fan”. I don’t know anything about soccer, but I gotta tell you, it seems that the Singaporean population is split cleanly into a) Man-U [...]

enrique

Denise wrote me a week ago, saying that her boss Enrique was leaving Singapore and her colleagues wanted to give him a caricature as a farewell gift. It was such a pleasant surprise to hear from her – we first got to know each other through our webcomics several years back, when I think we [...]

Thushara, she of the Spongebob

After drawing Laura’s friend Joel (“the basketball fanatic”), I moved on to Thushara, her best friend since secondary school.
While Thushara also used to be a basketball player back in school, I’d already chosen to present Joel as the basketballer. Instead, I conveniently seized on Laura’s description of “still watches Spongebob Squarepants” (note how I take [...]

Ming Yi, Material Monk

The venerable Ming Yi has been in the news of late for all the wrong reasons. To be honest, I wasn’t much interested in the case until the Straits Times revealed that he owned ten gold credit cards from various banks, had a taste for luxury goods, and routinely stayed at six-star hotels. He justified [...]
